PHILL FINLEY - BIOGRAPHY
A semi-self taught artist, I had two art
classes back in the dim, dark early days of college that were required for my architectural
degree (University of Oregon, ’77). Only worked on my art sporadically while practicing
architecture and as a professor. As I’m beginning to look forward to retirement, I’ve finally
made the personal commitment to devote a major effort to art. While the accomplishment of
becoming an architect, and satisfaction of being a professor have been rewarding in ways beyond
brief description; art in turn is a joy, and that’s how I’m going to spend the rest of my time.
I do not intend to “retire”, I need something of interest to do that involves still having
opportunities to work with people. I am successful in many ways. It is hard work (I have found
no one who finds success easy, some just make better plans).
So much to say, but only so much even I can stand to take in at one time (wait for the book,
but don’t hold your breath). I’m from Washington state, married for forever in 1969, one great
daughter, some really good friends, good educations and satisfying/successful careers, have had
the now recognizable benefit of having found the initiative to work hard for success, and a
wife/friend who has been a rock steady support.
