I simply liked the strong shadow playing on his closed eyes, accentuating a sense of sadness. The simple strong geometry of the old hat and pea coat add to the apparent plight. It is the first drawing I’ve done just for myself. These early drawings started me in the direction of looking for a specific focus of interest and drawing it with a minimum of surroundings.
