At the time I was looking at water movement for another painting (Contemplation), so seeing the river, we stopped and enjoyed a stroll along Spring Creek. It is one of those gentle places you find where just being there is relaxing. I enjoyed the mood and wanted to study that with a soft approach of brush strokes. A pleasant time, filled with soft light gently encouraging tranquil wandering wondering thoughts, which I’ve tried to portray by the evocative style of impressionism melded with the timelessness of black and white. It thus becomes a study of the effects of style on imagery, where the painting can be about something more than the image. Where it is about capturing a moment in time whether real or imagined. Where light is the essence of mood, texture creates realism and their synergy creates a visual expression. Where impressionism has a proper place next to imagination, and imagery illustrates clues to the artist’s conceptual approach.
